Selangor palace's wrath.
DAP's Karpal Singh may have taken on too many at one go. Wong Chun Wai has put up this posting:-
Royal rebuke against Karpal SinghThe Royal Court of Selangor, which met this morning. has issued a statement against DAP chairman Karpal Singh for purportedly saying that the Sultan of Selangor had interfered in the executive matters of the state. The report came out in the Malay Mail on May 6. In a strongly-worded statement from the Royal Court, which comprises elders of the palace, it regarded the statement by Karpal Singh as baseless and irresponsible

In the Parliament, the Son-In-Law (SIL) takes the floor right now as I blog.
He refers PR to a Public Relations party, and PKR to Projek Khinzir Raksasa.
I hope I didn't hear it wrongly. The Star has a news flash but the Hansard should run the official transcript.
It's called hijrah in Bahasa Malaysia.
In Malaysian politics, it simply means you have to move on when the old home is infested with problems and no near-term solutions are in sight.
In this case, politikus from Sabah may yet lead the the pack with a potential exodus, citing whatever justifications that imagination could possibly cook up. There signs are in the Huguan Siow, the Anifah Amans, the Yong Teik Lees, and the Ansari Abdullahs. Add the Ghapur Sallehs, if you may.
Then, ten pins will fall like ten pins do in a game of bowling and getting bowled over. Just watch this space.

A Wiki "fact" (click here):Now, did Najib, who was the Umno Youth leader back in 1987, really say he was going to "bathe the keris with Chinese blood", or is someone using Wikipedia to fix the DPM?
"In 1987, as UMNO Youth Chief, Najib defended special Malay privileges in a speech where he vowed to bathe the keris (Malay dagger) with Chinese blood. Shortly afterwards, the government launched a crackdown on extremist elements, termed Operation Lallang although Najib was not detained. At the same rally, banners were hoisted carrying phrases such as "revoke the citizenship of those who opposed the Malay rulers", "May 13 has begun" (referring to the May 13 racial riots in 1969), and "soak it (the keris) with Malaysian Chinese blood"."
Blogger Pasquale says here he did not remember Najib ever saying it. Unless someone can prove him wrong.
update, noon
A fuming AMLG defends Dr Khir Toyo's on-line poll that puts Najib (13%) far behind Muhyiddin (49%) and Ku Li (33%) in the race for Umno president, replacing Pak Lah. The blogger told Pasquale that you can't fix the outcome of these on-line surveys.
Me, I don't see the point of fighting over the results of the survey. Badawi has said he's defending his position, so I don't see how any of these guys can get meet the qualifying quota even if they agree to enter the ring.
But if you want to cast your vote, what the heck! Go h e r e. Three days before the closing date.

Teater, Music & Dance… the most prestigious & glamourous events in town… The BOH Cameronian Arts Awards is one of the most coveted awards in Malaysia’s entertainment industry.

Megghelits!

Sasha Bashir dengan gaya cat women… Mmm… topeng tu beli kat Singapura katanya.

There are many wrong ways to advertise job opening and vacancy, and the example below is one of them. This is one of the recent job adverts posted by a company in one of the very popular online recruitment websites in Malaysia. You can probably guess which one but that is not the main point of discussion.
This is not an attempt to criticize, defame or make fun of other people’s blunder but rather pinpointing how some mistakes can prove to be degrading to both results and reputation of the advertiser.
The company claimed to have “more than 15 years experience across a broad range of industries and service sectors” but the way the advertisement was written and represented is not at all consistent with the statement. First, looking at the job title will leave anyone reading it to wonder, for a while, what the job is all about. There seems to be too much information cramped into one space.

There is the ‘Global Support Executive’ part, which sounds quite usual for a job title, but then there is also “Securities, Trade Finance & Money Market” and it does not finish there. “5 days - Training Provided” ensued and finally it ends with “SPM”. While the ‘SPM’ part would lead us to believe that SPM leavers can apply for the job, the requirement tells you otherwise - i.e. the candidates must have at least a Diploma.
How are you going to digest this? If the advertiser is attempting to capture job seekers through the search feature by plucking too many keywords than I would suggest the person to contact the online recruitment company and learn how the search methodology and keyword stuffing really works.
Next, putting “Full training will be provided!!!” is such a irresponsible act of explaining the job responsibility. It sounds clumsy, arrogant (with the exclamation marks) and describes an act of desperation. Other blunders for you to see will include -obvious spelling mistakes, use of unprofessional email address (which reflects the non-existence of a proper company website) and asking for photo (More than 90% of job advertisements ask for photo. This must stop - most positions, except when you’re presenting for a TV station and such, do not require the candidates to submit photos).
NO FEES or COMMISSION TO BE CHARGED - this is the first time I saw advertiser putting this phrase. I wonder they have been guilty in the past for doing such a thing?
And by the way, do you happen to know where Cryber Jaya is? Couldn’t see it on the map.
The theatrics are over. Now is the time to bare all acts which are punishable as crimes under Malaysian laws.
Whether they hold or held high places in the Bench, the Bar, the AG's Chamber, the ruling party or the Business Community at large does not a single bit matter. It's chasing the graving train that made them all the same.
Again, if there was no consultation on the appointment of judges -- a mandatory requirement under the Federal Constitution -- then there would be more questions to too many questions raised.
If the Judiciary under the concept if Separation of Power is destine to survive, there is only one way out. Be firm be fair, but let's TAKE NO PRISONERS.

Apa-apa pun, tahniah atas kejayaan penganjuran!

TEATER P.RAMLEE THE MUSICAL MENANG BERGAYA
Untuk Liza Hanim & all, good luck & all the best untuk show mereka bermula 17 Mei ini.

mod_security is good to protect your website but it might cause some problems for some web applications, especially in file uploads. My server has mod_security enabled and I encountered WordPress upload error: “HTTP error”. The SecFilterScanPOST Off solved the problem immediately. ![]()
Sekadar penjelasan maka tepat diteka bahawa saya tertumpu memantapkan muafakat Pakatan Rakyat, mesyuarat memperkukuh jentera KeADILan dan memantau perjalanan kerajaan negeri PR.

I think I’ve mentioned a lot on NH, I hate tagging games. That being said, people still tag me. I read somewhere, it actually improves Google PageRank and Technorati Ratings, somehow I don’t see any merit in that. I blog my thoughts, not to be popular.
I’ve been tagged by a sweety, AyumiLuck. In this tag, I’m supposed to write 5 of my first time experiences. This is a very long post
(more…)
continuation from my 2 earlier posts ‘anti ISA rally in penang - 4 arrested‘ and ‘7 still in police station‘. read the update straight from the horse’s mouth - bk ong and stanleyf! ong at his penang watch site with photos (eg this photo you see here, taken from there). stanley’s report later on below.
it is very disturbing to know that lau shu shi from suaram had not been released. the poor girl will be spending a night in the police lock-up! and for what? just because she was bold enough to tell off a police for being rude!!
that was the idea i get at first when reading from malaysiakini, this part:
(note: the full article from Malaysiakini can be read at my earlier post).
Lau had just came out from the Jalan Patani police station premise when an unidentified police officer raised his voice against her. When Lau told the officer to lower his voice and show respect to her, a shouting match ensued between them. She was then taken under the police custody for questioning.
see? the police was rude to her when he shouted at her! and for this the police wanted to charge her (and teh) for ‘causing a public nuisance’.
actually in the beginning, only 2 were arrested from the scene of the rally, i.e. bk ong and sathias, the blogger. the other 5 were arrested inside the police station when they went there to show support for these 2 arrested, and also to lodge report against the police mishandling of the people at the rally.
from penang watch:
Even weirder: When the dispersed protestors heard about our arrests-they went to the Patani Rd police station to check out our conditions and to report the police’s mishandling of protestors. Then 2 more were arrested just when they stepped out the police station! And 3 more arrested at the 2nd floor of the police station when some others went up there to look for us. This lots of 7 arrests made a weird experience-but the police and the political power behind them will pay a heavy price when there are strong media and public pressures descend upon them-which seems likely in the next few days!
er…. what? but i also find something weird regarding the protestors (or rather only shu shi and teh). they should have known not to trust the police lah. how can like this… it was the police who mishandled them at the protest scene, then why they wanted to go to the police station to report these police who harassed them? surely the double standard police will not entertain them!
of course though the arrest of the 5 was very weird as ong pointed out and i too hope that the police and the political power behind them will pay a heavy price!! that’s why i email blogger and non blogger friends to ask them to spread this news. let everyone know that once again the police is so blatantly showing its double standard.
(remember to read the updated news from malaysiakini too)
——————————————-
the following is stanley’s report:
The protest for the abolish ISA this morning turn out to be very rude. The protest started at 11am sharp with members from HINDRAF, SUARAM, GMI PENANG and other NGO groups. Before we even arrived at the scene, heavy police personals were seen around the area but none of them gave us any problem until a team of nearly 100 over police personals arrived at around 11.45am fully armed with batons, shields, guns, and teargas. The officer in charged ordered us to dispersed. We explained our rights to protest but we were denied our rights. Shortly just after that, We walked towards gurney plaza and decided to disperse as we were afraid of the safety of all our members there because the police might miss use their powers and abuse the people. around 20min after dispersing while i was talking with Ong from Penang Watch in the plaza area, Ong was approached by a police personal and arrested shortly after that. Just after that, i received information that an independent blogger had been arrested. He was filming the police act at the moment. Georgetown police chief ACP Azam Abd Hamid had claim that he was distributing flayers at the moment. That is a total lie and ridiculous statement. He was there covering the event for his blog and had nothing to do with HINDRAF or any other movement present.
Just after learning that two had been arrested, we decided to make a police report against PDRM for denying us our rights to assemble peacefully and disrupting our protest. When the police report was being lodge, a rude police Chief Ins Kamarudin of the patani road police station broke out an argument with Sushi who is from GMI Penang. He talked very rudely with her asking her to get out from the police station and stand out side. When she questioned her rights and asked for the police to be polite, she was immediately arrested. Teh hock from Suaram who was filming the argument was also arrested rudely in the police station with much struggle and force from the police. It was very clear to all who were present that it is a misuse of power and an abusive violation act of the Police. Shortly just after i made my report and when i was call in for questioning by Ins. Firdaus, i was also arrested together with two other friends. This is a scene where you can only see in Malaysia. You lodge report against police and they arrest you to scare you. They told me that i was being detained for attending a illegal assembly thus denying me my rights to a peaceful assembly and violating the federal constitution law. Again, you can only see this in Malaysia very often.`
We were kept for very long hours before our statements were taken. I denied giving any statement and told them that i would answer questions in court as i could not trust the integrity and fairness of PDRM. Lawyer Darshan Singh, PKR DUN Ravi and MP Liew Chin Tong (Tg Bungah, DAP) were at the police station negotiating. Five of us were released on police bail at about 8pm. But Sushi and teh were denied bail and will be produced in Penang Court Today 9am. They will be charged under section 90 of Police Act -for causing `public nuisance’ while the rest including me will have to be present at the Tg. Tokong Police station on the 26th of May to see what charges had they brought against us.
Well WAKE UP MALAYSIANS before it`s to late. This is Malaysia n a so called caring Federal government towards it`s citizens. P. Uthaya Kumar has not been taken to IJN yet despite heart problems and all the ISA detainees are suffering by the political abuse of UMNO. If we continue to keep our mouths shut, We will loose our rights completely.
Thank you all for your support and prayers when i was arrested. I will update you guys on the court hearing today, meanwhile u can log on the below websites for more info on the incident.
Thank you and God bless
K.Sudhagaran Stanley
attended the public service media forum on saturday. disappointed that gayathry from CIJ did not turned up. anyway, the three speakers (picture here) gave interesting talk about public service media.
the moderator was teo sue ann, master of social sciecne USM student (far left in picture).
ng eng kiat (2nd from right in picture) was the first speaker. first he mentioned about the 4 different medias: state media, political media, independent media and alternative media.
he said in setting up a public service media, many questions ought to be look into like how to run it, who is to fund it, the content of the media, who is the audience and so on. so far, he pointed out the only public service media in our country is RTM (radio tv malaysia).
anil netto was the next speaker. the topics he covered include:characters of good public service media
public service media is important to counterweight to corporate media values
Risks of public service media
sources of funding
trend
repercussions
situation of public service media.in malaysia
excluded voices and issues
he also listed out some alternative citizens media, which are:
community radio, campus radio, trade unions and NGO publication, independent internet websites, blogs, youtube.
anil said that to work for a public service media, civil society must play a key role in pushing for it. also, they must campaign for abolishing of repressive laws like the OSA and PPPA.
ong, the last speaker spoke at length about the independent paper that pakatan rakyat will start. he gave some suggestion on how it should be run. most important, he said, the paper must be ‘people friendly’ i.e. e.g ready to respond to readers who write in and to give priority to readers e.g. to have their letters publish on 2nd page (like some foreign magazines eg newsweek does) instead of somewhere hidden far away on pg 20 or pg 34.
as for funding, ong said it is important for the paper to be state funded because in this way, the paper will feel obligated to respond to readers.
all the 3 speakers join in to discuss about the independent paper. here is what anil netto wrote in his blog of the forum:
We also critiqued the Pakatan Rakyat’s plans to set up its own newspaper for five states and discussed whether this was a good move.
Ong felt that steps should be taken to make it more independent than what was being planned.
For my part, I felt that any attempt to set up a state government-backed newspaper would run into problems as it would suffer from credibility issues as a result of public perception of it being backed by the state - especially if editors and key staff are appointed by the party. Such journalism would serve the interests of political masters rather than the public.
Good journalism should challenge and critique oppressive power structures. And it would be difficult to do that if a newspaper is funded or owned by the state or if its editors and key staff were appointed by political parties. Surely, that would compromise its editorial independence and journalistic integrity.
the forum started with shu shi from suaram launching the ‘sign the petition for an independent paper‘ campaign in a creative way. yellow ribbons were pinned to a board that covered up some letters. each participant were asked to pull out the ribbon (of which then they were to wear it), and when they do, some letters will fall out. these fallen letters spelled out repressive laws that hinders an independent, free paper (eg OSA, ISA, PPPA).
here is a picture of shu shi (right) and the board. she’s a nice lady and it’s a pity to hear that she had to spend a night at the police lock-up, and will be charged tomorrow. let’s hope the charges can be drop!
The outlaws just managed to piss me off again. Well, not pissed as in the angry piss because I shouldn’t do that. But I feel terribly hurt. When you have offered people kindness but they didn’t accept it, it feels kind of sucks because it was done with good intention and instead, I get ignored.
I feel terrible when my housekeeper asked me if I can help her to make some herbal tea. Someone else asked her to do it but she is already so busy. She approached me because she knows I am always accommodating.
Sometimes, I feel like screaming for an answer. “Is it because you think I am a Christian and if I do anything nice to you, it is because I have “bad” intentions of converting you?” It sucks. It hurts. Maybe I should go pop some pills and forget them. Why bother when we are not needed, right? Now, let me see this site with Phentermine without a prescription and see if they got any super-strong, elephant strength sedatives for me.
I have a community site powered by Drupal but it cannot display chinese characters, eventhough it supports unicode by default.
All non-English characters are displayed as question marks (???). I tried to reinstall Drupal but no luck. Yesterday, I finally discovered the problem and solved it!
The problemLast time, I installed Drupal using the cPanel Fantastico script installer. The installer created database using Latin collation. That’s why Drupal cannot display Chinese characters because the database is not unicode (UTF-8).
Lesson learned: Do not install script using cPanel Fantastico.
The solutionThe solution is simple, correct the tables’ collation to UTF-8 using the following SQL query (thanks to neo_fox):
ALTER TABLE table_name CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci;
I ran the query using phpMyAdmin found in cPanel hosting control panel. But the drawback is that you need to run the SQL query for every single table…
I modified 20+ tables and it works! Now my friends can leave chinese message on the community website. ![]()
